What is sport and performance psychology?

According to the American Psychological Association, sport and performance psychology is a subfield of psychology that focuses on identifying and applying psychological principles that facilitate peak performance and enhance physical ability. Sport and performance psychology professionals work with athletes, performing artists, businesspeople, the military, and high-risk professions to strengthen their “inner edge” and realize their greatest potential. People of all ages and skill levels can benefit from mental skills training.

Mental performance professionals help these populations overcome issues that impede performance, such as anxiety, burnout, lack of confidence, the “yips”, interpersonal dynamics, returning to sport after injury, and retirement from sport.

The RISE Difference

My career as a professional trapeze artist provided me with a unique understanding of fear, performance anxiety, and the importance of communication. I’m excited to bring these lessons, along with deep academic understanding, to help you cultivate mental resilience, increase intrinsic motivation, and hone your competitive edge.
